Hey guys. Just an update on me! I’m fine got some stitches in my chin and elbow is a little beaten up but Will and I are headed back to Andrew today to finish this thing! Andrew this pic is for you! image

Bad News!

Andrea hit a deer in James’ truck and rolled off an embankment.  She seems to be ok, got pretty beat up, but is making her way back to my house with Wil.  It sounds like the truck did not fare so well.  I am heading up to see Andrew at Crags on his return from Pikes.  I have been waiting for Andrea to get here, but can’t wait much longer!

Going and still going day 4 !!

GOOD WORK ANDREW!

Hey everyone! thanks for being patient as you probably know cell service is limited out here! Thanks to Natalie for keeping everyone posted until I can get on to update!
Andrew arrived at 530 am at Culebra and they let him start at around 0545-6 THANK YOU Ron.(great job for being on time Andrew!) Around 945 Kent brought us homemade cinnamon buns (thanks Kent!) and Andrew was on his dirt bike following shortly behind him. The grassy fields on his hike were an enjoyable relief for him and he even got to glissade a bit! We rolled Andrew out with the roller massager and forced him some food and hot cinnamon buns and headed to Lake Como. Transition time was quick and Andrew got in too short of a nap! He is tired and wants to sleep but is staying motivated. We are keeping him well fed even when he doesn’t want it. (But no more peanut butter for him, it didn’t go down well this morning!) He started up Lake Como Road around 11. It was extremely difficult for Andrew on the dirt bike and we were able to pick him up in the car (as we were not far behind from following him up)and drove him to 10500′ (great job James!!) where he met Ryan (a friend of James) and his friend Sean to hike with. We headed to James’s cabin after to hang out, get clean,do some repacking and were on the road again to wait for Andrew at huerfano TH. Currently we are waiting for Andrew to head to Pikes!

Getting a rubdown
Getting a rubdown and refueling

Overnight…

“Andrew killed it in the Crestones” from Kim just now.  What an amazing run and getting to Culebra before 6am.  Crazy!!!  The mule texted early this morning saying “Sleepy but solid.  Mild hallucinations from the summit down to the bike.  We will be at the ranch at 515am.  He is currently as snug as a bug in a rug with no signs of moving until woken with an air horn.”

He made excellent time on Culebra this morning and is now heading to the Blanca group and the dreaded Lake Como Road.  At least he gets to sleep on the drive for a while!

Thanks everyone for their support! This is so much more fun than the last times he did this!

And about the hallucinations, he was probably hypoglycemic.  I am sure his body is having trouble meeting the demand for glucose after such long hikes and so little rest.  James is going to adjust his intake some.

One more thing…

Andrew does plan to return to S. Colony Lakes, but the Mule will exchange the downhill mountain bike for the dirt bike for the ride down.  Does anyone know if Homie made it? I forgot to ask.

Good News!!!!!

Our beloved Andrea managed to get the Cielo Vista Ranch to give Andrew until 7am!!!!!!! Just texted his satellite tracker, his response was “relief.”

In the Crestones starting from South Colony?

I haven’t heard back if he is coming back out S Colony or going to go out Willow Creek.  If he doesn’t come back out the way he goes in, then James has to walk all the way up the road to retrieve the dirtbike, drive to the other trailhead, have food ready, and try to get some sleep before Andrew returns and they have to book it to the ranch by 6am.  Support is extremely difficult and a HUGE thanks to James “the mule” Sims for his tireless efforts!

From the Mule:

If you’re having dirt bike problems I feel bad for you son. ..I got two big problems and a rear brake is one.    A slight crash bent the rear brake into a non functioning mess and the electrical fairy disapproved of Andrew having brights on the dirt bike.  It’s o.k. though my dad’s an electrician I’m well versed in fixing things.

Andrew is still in this for sure. We will be cutting it close to make the gate tomorrow at culebra considering the twelve hour trail head to trail head in the Crestone group and a long drive south. The team is strong and I really believe we can make the window.
